List of Vice Presidents of India Since 1952 Till Date

The First and the Second Vice President (The First Person) of India wasDr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan  of Tamilnadu- From 13th May 1952 To 12th May 1962 (For 2 consecutive Terms)- when Dr.Rajendra Prasad was the President of India.

The Third Vice President of India was Dr.Zakir Hussain (the 2nd person) of Andhrapradesh – 
From 13th May 1962 To 12th May 1967,when Dr.S.Radhakrishnan was the President of India.

The Fourth Vice President of India was Shri.  Varahagiri Venkata Giri (the 3rd person) of  Andhrapradhesh  from 13th May 1967 To 3rd May 1969,when Dr. Zakir Hussain was the President of India.

The Fifth Vice President of India was Mr. Gopal Swarup Pathak (the 4th person)of Uttar Pradesh,
from 1st September 1969 To 1st September 1974,when Shri.  Varahagiri Venkata Giri  was the President of India.

The Sixth Vice President of India was Mr. Basappa Danappa Jatti (the 5th person) of Karnataka,
 From 1st September 1974 To 25th July 1977,   when Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was the President of India. 

The Seventh Vice President of India was Justice Muhammad Hidayatullah (the 6th person) of Uttar Pradesh,   From 25th August 1977 To 25th July 1982,   when Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was the President of India.

The Eighth Vice President of India was Mr. Ramaswamy Venkataraman (the 7th person)  of Tamilnadu,  From 25th August 1982 To 25th July 1987,  when Giani Zail Singh was the President of India.

The Ninth Vice President of India was Sri. Shankar Dayal Sharma (the 8th person),  From 3rd September 1987 To 24th July 1992,  when Mr. Ramaswamy Venkataraman   was the President of India.

The Tenth Vice President of India was Mr. K.R.Narayanan (the 9th person) of Kerala, From 21st August 1992 To 24th July 1997,  when Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma was the President of India.

The Eleventh Vice President of India was Mr. Krishan Kant (the 10th person) of New Delhi,
From 21st August 1997 To 27th July 2002,   when Mr. K.R.Narayanan was the President of India.

The Twelfth Vice President of India was Mr. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (the 11th person) of Rajasthan,  From 19th August 2002 To 21st July 2007, when Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was the President of India.       

The Thirteenth and the Fourteenth/current Vice President of India is Dr.Hamid Ansari  (the 12th person) of West Bengal,  From 11th August 2007, when Ms. Pratibha Patil was the President of India till 25th July 2012 and Mr.Pranab Mukherjee is the President of India since 25th July 2012.

From the above list you may observe that the following 6 Persons, who were the Vice President of India subsequently became the President of India:

• Dr.R.Venkataraman
• Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma

And the following  6 Persons did not become the President of India:
